The Filipino American ( Fil-Am) Association of Bay County was founded on Febuary 20th 1982 by Mr. Herman Worrell (TSgt. USAF RET.). There were five families who joined together to start the organization. Over the years it has grown to over 100 families/members that joined.
It has evolved from an informal organization to becoming incorporated and later became a 501C3 (Charitable) Organization. The organization has held induction balls/events, coronation for "Little Miss", Little Teen," and Mrs. Fil-Am over the years. Personnel have participated in parades,held Festival and are regularly supporters of the Panma City Downtown Improvement Board (DIB) Friday Feast . Also , the Fil-Am has regularly participated in the annual DIB (hosted) Festival of Nation each fall.
The Fundamental purpose of this organization is to function as a charitable organization for the benefit of the community at-large. Promote better community relationships and enhance an environment conducive to good moral order and spirit of mutual cooperation in all social and civic life. Encourage participation in appropriate civic, ,social and charitable community projects.Promotes intercultural development and to acquaint the community at-large of Filipino customs,tradition,and heritage. Also, undertake projects and enterprises intended to improve the economic,social and cultural well-being of all the members of this organization and the local community.
Since our inception, we have enriched the multicultural landscape of Bay County through numerous cultural events such as Filipino Independence Day celebrations, traditional dance and music performances, and culinary festivals showcasing Filipino cuisine. These events not only strengthen the bonds within our community but also promote cultural exchange and diversity throughout the area.
Volunteers are the backbone of our organization. We offer a variety of opportunities for individuals and groups to get involved and make a difference in the lives of those we serve.
The Filipino-American Association of Bay County, Inc. is a testament to the enduring spirit and resilience of the Filipino American community. We are dedicated to enhancing cultural understanding and unity among diverse populations. Through our efforts, we ensure that Filipino culture and heritage continue to thrive in Bay County and beyond.
